Who Do You Trust More -- Your Dentist Or Your CISO?
You probably have an appointment schedule with your dental office that gets you there every 6 months. The best case scenario is that these are routine cleaning appointments with 90 seconds of DDS time to tell you that yep everything still looks good.
What happens when, well, things don't look so good but you don't have any tooth pain? Do you just do what the doctor says and get the treatment (for maybe thousands of dollars) because after all the doctor is a medical professional with very significant educational experience and credentials that need constant updating? Do you go dental practice shopping because you suspect that your current dentist wants to drill and bill?
Do you trust your dentist?
What about the CISO of the company you just invested in? Do you just do what the cyber-practice leader says and get the AI-based SOC (for maybe millions of dollars with constant upgrades) because after all the leader is a battle-tested professional with very significant educational experience and credentials that need constant updating?
Do you trust your CISO?
If you answered yes to both trusting your CISO and your dentist, which do you trust more and why?
A botched filling is obvious the moment you bite down, and a second opinion is a phone call away.
A compromised security posture stays invisible until the breach notification goes out -- by which point the "second opinion" is a forensics bill and an appearance in our 'Litany of the Hacked.'
Remember that time you cracked a molar on a popcorn kernel? You heard the noise, you felt the jolt of pain knifing through your jaw. You needed competent dentistry right now. In contrast you may not even know you were hacked for months, but once you find out you were attacked you also need competent CISO intervention immediately.
At a personal level you almost certainly need to trust your dentist more than your CISO but at a business level you need to trust your CISO more than your dentist. You may distrust or dislike both. When you have given up on your dentist you go practice-hopping, ask friends & neighbors or check local social media groups etc to find a new dentist.
What about when you give up on your CISO? What makes you give up and what are you looking for and how would you find it?
We at Pythia Cyber are experts in identifying cyber-leader talent. There is no one-size-fits-all for cyber-talent at any level because different cybersecurity platforms and maturities require leaders to meet and exceed those needs. You can't find that fit info on your local chat group. Let us work with you to find the right CISO for what you need.
Ask us how you can visibly align your organization's cybersecurity needs with the leaders who have the talent to provide it.
